Amathunzi Game Lodge
This past weekend, I headed out to escape city life for a much needed brake at the 3000 hectare game reserve called Amathunzi situated near Roberson, over the Wacky Wine Weekend. If you're a wildlife lover in search of peace and tranquillity that's only 2 hrs away from Cape Town, Then Amathunzi is what you're looking for!

The lodge comprises five freestanding thatched chalets, each chalet has its own bathroom (separate tub and shower), a wood-burning fireplace and shaded stoep from which to enjoy the views of the veld and seasonal lake. Chalets are furnished with very comfortable well- sprung king-sized beds; one has a separate lounge area which can accommodate an additional two children on a sleeper couch.
As my weekend stay was in the middle of June and the weather was extremely chilly. but it didnt bother me, Amathunzi kept me snug as a bug, the bed covering was more than enough and the chalets toasty inside fireplace made for a romantic and cozy stay.
We also didn't let the cold stop us from braaing on the second night at the lodges wind protected outdoor lapa and had a brilliant feast under the most brightly lit starry sky whilst sipping on beautiful Robertson wines we had discovered from daytime adventures at the surrounding wineries. Amathunzi is a seasonal stopper.
On the last day of my stay, I woke up early for a breathtaking 1 hour game drive. Spotting wildlife was frequent throughout the hour drive and I was able to marvel at gemsbok, black wildebeest, eland, zebra and giraffes roaming the reserve.
When it was time to go, I felt emotional, for I had truly fallen in love with Amathunzi. I can't wait to return soon to feel the inner peace and renewal that comes with staying here.
The hugest thanks to the warm and friendly staff at Amathunzi, it surpassed my wildest expectations.

Lodge & Five Chalets All chalets feature log-burning fireplaces, ceiling fans, coffee/tea-making facilities, luxury linen, bathrobes, veranda with seating and hammocks. The central chalet has a separate lounge area with a sleeper couch which can accommodate two children.
R6600 for 10 people (all 5 chalets). You will have exclusive use of the lodge kitchen, lounge/dining room area as well as the lapa and lodge swimming pool. All rooms are supplied with linen and towels.
